Most thrilling religious ritual in the world

The screams from the crowd will make those 'pagans' feel creepy. Moreover, watching the devout worshipers stabbing sharp swords to their neck and chest will make the audience shudder. However, strange yet very fortunate, there won't be any drop of blood.

Those following impressive photos capture a sacred religious ceremony with a history over 100 years - Ngerebong ceremony. Every year, Hindu devotees in Bali, Indonesia will gather at Petilan Pengerebongan temple to conduct the ceremony.



The devout man at Petilan Pengerebongan with sharp short swords used to stab into neck and chest. However, there will be no bloodshed. All the believers are convinced that they were under protection of Hinduism gods.


The man in Bali strongly stab himself with the short sword. This is an indispensable part of Ngerebong ceremony.




Ngerebong ceremony takes place every 210 days. It's a year length in Bali calendar. This year ceremony took place in November 10.


In the day changing between new year and last year, residents here will perform the Ngerebong ceremony, stabbing a knife in the body is believed to help worshipers unite with nature and gods.

Ngerebong is one of the most famous religious ceremony in the world due to its special rituals.

Worshipers in Kesiman village are very devout. They will conduct the ceremony a whole day to connect with Hindu gods and nature.

Ngerebong ceremony began with invitation of Hindu deities, and starting from this moment, the festival becomes more and more strange, worshipers will fall into a hypnotic-like state.

All the participants were dressed in white, with a white headdress. They dance in weirdly excitement and then the stabbing ceremony starts.

The music with increasingly pace in Ngerebong ceremony is said to be an important factor leading to the collective hypnotic state of the crowd.

                   The woman fell into the hypnotic state will begin to do a bizzare dancing.

A man cried while performing the ritual. It's not because he was afraid, in fact, this is jusst one of numerous strange reaction when somebody falls into a state of extreme excitement and fails to control himself.

                Another devotee washed his face with hot water to revive at the end of the day.

                                 When night fell, the ceremony ended and the festival began.

Some people are tasked to wear giant mask to continue in inviting Hindu deities to attend the festival.
